Some people dedicate their entire lives to creating works of art. Others dedicate their lives to preserving, recreating, and passing the value of those works on to future generations.
Some people dedicate their entire lives to creating works of art.
Others dedicate their lives to preserving, recreating, and passing the value of those works on to future generations.
Master Tran Anh Tru is one of those rare artists and craftsmen.
Known within Saigon’s art community and painting reproduction market as the “King of Painting Reproduction” Master Tru has spent decades studying, and reproducing works by renowned Vietnamese and international masters.
From Leonardo da Vinci, Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, Gauguin, Matisse, to Vietnamese masters as Bui Xuan Phai, To Ngoc Van, and Nguyen Gia Tri, he has not merely learned how to recreate an image.
He has studied the colors, materials, composition, light, depth, technique, and spirit behind each work.
Beginning as a self-taught apprentice through years of observation and practice, Master Tru eventually established his own painting workshop in Saigon, where he trained generations of apprentices and contributed to the development of a community of skilled painting reproduction artists serving both domestic and international markets.
Yet perhaps his greatest legacy does not lie in the painting he created.
The skills passed from master to apprentice.
The knowledge accumulated over decades.
The understanding of painting, materials, color, technique, and artistic value.
And above all, the belief in respecting art and preserving the craft for generations to come.

Now, as Master Tran Anh Tru enters retirement, he has chosen a new way to continue his life’s journey.
He has decided to pass on the painting reproduction career he built over many decades to future generations of students. Among them, his young apprentice, Ho Tam Anh – one of the successors to this legacy – will continue to preserve and fully promote the master's values through her own art organization, Catalina Art Trust
This is more than the transfer of a business or an artistic practice.
It is the passing down of a craft, a body of knowledge, a working methodology, and a living chapter of Saigon’s painting reproduction history.
From master to apprentice.
From one generation to the next.
From the past into the future.
For Catalina Art Trust, receiving this heritage is not about turning the art of reproduction into a purely commercial activity.
It is about preserving, standardizing, researching, educating, and transmitting the craft, ensuring that the knowledge and values cultivated by a master over a lifetime will not disappear with time.

Retirement does not mean leaving the world of art.
Master Tran Anh Tru will continue to work alongside Catalina Art Trust
In his new role, he will continue to share his experience and knowledge with the next generation while advising Catalina Art Trust on the value, quality, technique, materials, craftsmanship of artworks within its activities and collections.
Because a true legacy is not something that simply sits behind glass.
A legacy is something that is passed on – and continues to live.
And from this moment, the story of Master Tran Anh Tru enters a new chapter:
From Creator => to Master => to Mentor
A lifetime of craftsmanship carried forward by a new generation.
An artistic legacy entrusted to those who will preserve and continue it.
And a piece of Saigon’s artistic heritage opening a new chapter for the future.
